Welcome to the Business Studies Department
Our Intent
The Business department offers a varied curriculum providing students with lots of opportunities to develop both academically and personally. The world of business is extremely relevant to all students, offering an insight into the world of work from a local, national and international perspective. They will one day earn a living by being employed within a business organisation or owning their own business and we believe that the Business department broadens their career horizons. The more a student understands about the world of work and the economy in which they operate, the more successful they are likely to be in their chosen field and life in general.
The sole intention of the Business department is to deliver a curriculum that is interesting, relevant and challenging. It is a curriculum that enables all pupils to meet their aspirations. There is a combination of practical, theoretical, individual and group learning in order to cater for a variety of learning styles. As well as the knowledge needed to succeed, students will develop employability skills such as working with other people, being reliable, dependable and resilient with a willingness to learn.
We deliver valuable academic rigour across all courses whilst providing students with opportunities to gain and enhance vital employability skills. By allowing students to actively engage in a variety of learning experiences, we hope to support all students to develop into well rounded individuals ready for the next step of their academic and career journey.
In addition to learning about business theory and calculations, pupils will be required to consider the health, social, moral and ethical issues surrounding business decisions and the impact that businesses can have on a wide range of stakeholders. It is hoped that students develop an interest in current business and economic affairs by reading widely around the subject in newspapers (available on the Internet), use news apps such as bbc.co.uk. as well as watching business related television programmes.
The staff’s commitment and enthusiasm for the subject ensure that high standards are set which fuel students’ aspirations. Teachers understand Business and what is required as the students venture out to join the job market.

Extra Curricular Activities and Clubs
We encourage all students to participate in the extra-curricular programme we offer. Our clubs and activities are designed to be inclusive for all; the broad range on offer ensures that there is something for students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved with. Where can this subject take you?
Whether you choose A-levels or a BTEC course in the sixth form, you can still follow the same route: University, an apprenticeship, or a college course to specialise in something like accounting. Whatever you do, there are hundreds of careers to choose from using business studies including: accountant, investment analyst, bank manager, project manager, risk manager, digital marketing officer, estate agent, franchise owner, human resources manager, marketing executive, personal shopper, secondary school teacher or even a wedding planner.
