Service Students Trip to memorial of Arnhem Oosterbeek war cemetery

On Thursday the 23rd , I had the Pleasure of taking 8 students to Woodhall Spa to attend a memorial of Operation Market Garden.

It was a fabulous morning where we witnessed the planting of an oak tree from an acorn brought back from Arnhem Oosterbeek war cemetery and the unveiling of a bench dedicated to the fallen heroes of the Battle of Arnhem.

Our students were given the opportunity to have a look around some WW2 vehicles and have their photos taken in the vehicles and meet Pegasus the Shetland Pony who is the mascot of the Parachute Regiment.

One of the students was given the privilege of placing a flower at the original Arnhem Oak and another 2 students had the honour of reading a poem  out in front of many dignitaries in attendance. They were given the opportunity as they had co written the winning poem especially written for the event.

The event was  wrapped up with a stunning display by the Red Devils which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
