DofE 2024 – Meet the Team and 2023/24 Update

Meet the Team

This year, we’ve been fortunate to have an incredible team of staff and volunteers. Their dedication and hard work have been essential in making this award possible. We couldn’t have done it without them!

Bronze Update

The 2023/24 expedition season has come to a close, and what a brilliant season it has been! We’ve held two training days, and numerous lunchtime and evening sessions, all culminating in our qualifying weekend.

Our students have worked hard, both individually and in groups, to gain confidence and learn new skills, apply them in the field, and overcome challenges along the way. The heat during the qualifying weekend made for some very challenging walking, yet they persevered with incredible resilience and determination.

We are extremely proud of our students, who have truly been a credit to the Academy. Now, they just need to complete their projects and wrap up their volunteering, physical, and skills sections to earn their awards. Many are just an Assessor’s report away from finishing.

Wellbeing Training Day 2024

Our Wellbeing Ambassador students met with Carre’s Grammar and St Peter & St Paul schools yesterday to complete Wellbeing Ambassador training.

They had an informative day and enjoyed meeting and working with other schools, this is something we hope to build on in the future.

We have been busy for the last month preparing for this summers expeditions.  Staff have been out checking routes, we are so lucky to have such great countryside on our doorstep and the students will be walking through some beautiful spots.

They do need to be prepared for mud though, there is a lot of mud out there following the recent rain and flooding.

This weekend we have had all of our bronze and silver candidates together for their first training day.  They completed training on first aid, health and safety, navigation, food and set their group aims.

At lunchtime they discovered just how long it takes to boil water on a trangia!

It was a fantastic day and we can’t wait until after Easter when we will be continuing their training out in the countryside.

If you have any questions about the award please get in contact or call and ask for Miss Slesser on 01522 880400

Wellbeing Ambassadors – Training for 2024

Our Wellbeing Ambassadors have been getting ready for Wellbeing 2024; lots of plans in the making to continue supporting our students.

Tea & Cake Event – Community Ambassdors

Some of our Sixth Form Community Ambassadors went along to the Festive Tea and Cake Event yesterday.

It was a lovely morning in which the students mingled with the visitors, chatted and sang along to Christmas songs.

The entertainment was provided by the Branston and District Ukulele Group.

Pyjama Fundraiser Day 2023 – Sixth Form

Yesterday marked the first day of fundraising for this years chosen Sixth Form charity – Motor Neurone Disease Association; the charity was voted in by the Sixth Formers earlier this year.

The Sixth Formers and staff dressed in their pyjamas and spent their lunchtime watching The Polar Express and drinking hot chocolate.

Each tutor group submitted a photograph to enter an inter form contest to be the best dressed.

The support was amazing with most tutor groups having almost every student in their pyjamas.

They raised just over £100 to kick off their fundraising.
